Why choose a traditional Christmas tree skirt that spends eleven months of the year tucked away in a cupboard?

Materials & care

Materials & craftsmanship

Each piece in our rattan collection begins with carefully selected natural rattan — a fast-growing climbing palm valued for its strength, flexibility and enduring beauty.

Sourced from responsibly managed regions in Southeast Asia, rattan offers a naturally renewable alternative to traditional hardwoods, requiring minimal intervention to transform into something both durable and refined.

Every piece is handwoven by skilled artisans, using time-honoured techniques passed down through generations. A solid rattan core provides structure, while finer strands are carefully shaped and woven to create the intricate textures and sculptural forms that define each design.

Once formed, each piece is finished by hand and left to dry naturally, enhancing its strength and longevity. Subtle variations in tone, weave and texture are part of the process — and part of what makes every piece unique.

Lightweight yet durable, tactile yet timeless, our rattan is designed to bring warmth and depth into your home for years to come.

Care instructions

Rattan Care Guide

Crafted from premium natural rattan, each piece is designed to be both durable and timeless. With the right care, your rattan will maintain its structure and character for years to come.

How to Care for Your Rattan

Dust regularly using a soft, dry cloth or a gentle brush to remove surface debris from the weave
Wipe clean with a lightly damp cloth when needed, ensuring the basket is not overly saturated
Keep away from prolonged exposure to moisture or humidity, as natural rattan can weaken over time
Avoid placing in direct sunlight for extended periods to prevent fading or drying of the fibres
Do not use harsh chemicals, sprays, or abrasive cleaners on the surface
Suitable for indoor use only

A Natural Material

Rattan is a natural material, meaning subtle variations in tone, texture, and weave are to be expected. These are not imperfections, but part of the character that makes each piece unique.

Sustainability

We believe the most sustainable homes are built slowly — filled with pieces chosen with care and made to last.

Rattan is one of the most renewable materials used in homeware. As a fast-growing climbing palm, it regenerates quickly without the need for replanting and can be harvested with minimal impact on surrounding ecosystems.

Our pieces are made using predominantly hand-led processes, reducing reliance on energy-intensive production methods while supporting skilled artisan communities.

Designed with longevity in mind, each piece moves beyond seasonal trends. Instead, it offers a timeless foundation — reducing the need for replacement and encouraging a more considered way of living.

Natural materials, thoughtful craftsmanship and enduring design — this is sustainability in its simplest, most honest form.

TREE STAND GUIDANCE

The Perfect Finishing Touch

A little guidance to help you style Skye with your Christmas tree.

6ft & 7ft Trees

Skye accommodates many standard tree stands. Please check your stand dimensions before ordering.

8ft & 9ft Trees

The original tree stands will not fit inside Skye. A suitably sized outdoor parasol stand, rated to safely support your tree, is required.

THE FINER DETAILS

A Few Things Worth Knowing

Thoughtful answers to help you choose with confidence.

What can I use instead of a traditional Christmas tree skirt?

A rattan Christmas tree basket is a stylish alternative to a traditional fabric tree skirt. The Skye Basket creates a structured, natural finish around the base of your Christmas tree, helping to conceal the stand. Unlike a conventional tree skirt, Skye can be used as beautiful storage throughout the year.

Can I use the Skye Basket after Christmas?

Absolutely. Once the Christmas decorations come down, Skye can be used to store throws, cushions and other everyday essentials. Rather than spending eleven months tucked away in a cupboard, it becomes part of your home's everyday styling.

Will the Skye Basket fit a 6ft or 7ft Christmas tree?

Skye accommodates many standard 6ft and 7ft Christmas tree stands. The basket measures 60cm in external diameter and 32.5cm in height. We recommend checking your tree stand's dimensions before ordering, as the internal opening is smaller than the external diameter.

Can I use the Skye Basket with an 8ft or 9ft Christmas tree?

Yes, provided you use a suitable alternative stand. The original stands supplied with 8ft and 9ft trees will not fit inside the Skye Basket. A suitably sized outdoor parasol stand that fits inside the basket and is rated to safely support your tree is required.

What is the difference between a Christmas tree skirt and a tree collar?

A traditional Christmas tree skirt is usually made from fabric and lies around the base of your tree. A Christmas tree collar provides a more structured decorative surround. Skye offers the natural texture of a woven rattan tree basket with the added benefit of being useful storage after Christmas.

Does the Skye Basket need to be stored away after Christmas?

Not at all. Skye is designed to be enjoyed beyond the festive season. Fill it with cosy throws, cushions or everyday essentials to create attractive storage that complements your home all year round.
